The Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei made the comments during a meeting with the German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Klor-Berchtold on Tuesday.
“We have had a lot of patience in Iran. Our leadership and our people patiently and gentlemanly are waiting for Europe’s moves. If there is no cooperation, conditions will return to their first place. My sentence is diplomatic, it's a prediction. In the next eight months, Europe will be tested by the Iranian nation,” Rezaei said in reference to a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that the EU has promised to provide to Iran to keep the JCPOA alive, a promise that has not been fulfilled yet.
The Iranian official pointed to the US pressures on Europe to cooperate more against Iran, saying that the US President Donald Trump humiliated European nations by his JCPOA exit and discrediting the E3 signatures on the agreement as well as by putting heavy duties on European products.
He called on the Europeans to resist US bullying policies, noting that the European nations have changed their viewpoints towards America.
Michael Klor-Berchtold, for his part, said “we agree with you that we should hold more talks.”
The German ambassador said that he had visited different places in Iran and met with Iranian people, saying that some Iranian media have criticized his trips across Iran.
He suggested more talks between Iranian and German intellectual elites, adding “I have been impressed by the independence strengths and your people’s personality.”
He further expressed hope that the EU-promised financial mechanism would be established soon, noting “out experts are working on a new system against the US dollar, which relates to our independence and sovereignty.”
